THE NATION STATE OF MALAYSIA AT FIFTY-THREE: A BRIEF CONCEPTUAL NARRATION

Fifty-three years are too brief a time to evaluate the success or otherwise of a nation-state. But a general picture can be painted of its future by studying its past.

The institution of nation-state is two sides of the coin. If one side of the coin is defaced, impaired or disfigured, the other side of the coin automatically and inevitably will lose its significance. To ensure durability and everlasting credibility of a nation-state, if the analogy to the coin is to be stretched further, it has to be fertilized and nurtured constantly, in the same manner as the replacement of a fading coin is carried out by removing it from circulation and putting a new coin, to maintain its intrinsic integrity.

Constant vigilance is the basic requirement to secure the total health of a nation-state. The inherently built-in institutional system must be structured and made to function in such a mode that major or minor hiccups could be overcome without destablishing the foundation of the institution of nation state of Malaysia...Click below for the full article
